This page is the treatment for my film, 'Minnie'. A treatment is a description of everything which occurs in the narrative of the potential film. It expresses all about the mise-en-scene; character movement, location, costume, the exception is lighting. Lighting is not included in a treatment. However, in the case of my film, lighting is a essential part of the narrative and sparks crucial aspects.

Treatment October 2012
There is a riverbank with the water flowing from the wind. Kay's eyes open in a dark space, her surroundings appear dismal and lifeless. There is a unclear silhouette in the background. Kay sits up and looks around and spots the figure. The simple silhouette takes shape and becomes clearer that it is a girl sitting there. The girl is wearing a checked shirt, grey jeans, boots and her hair is covering her face and her head is down. Kay looks down at her self to see she is wearing all white. Kay tries to stand up slowly but she's not as strong as she thinks she is. She approaches the girl, not knowing what to expect, before she reaches her, the girl looks up. Kay starts asking questions, but the girl cannot reply.
There is an image of a stag beetle moving slowly amongst some grass pushing away any obstacles. Kay is standing at a distance from the girl, showing uncertainty. There is a piece of paper and a pen next to the girl and she begins to write some answers to the questions Kay is asking. However, some of the information is blurred out so Kay can't read it.
The lights change above them and Kay can hear something coming from above. Before she can figure out what is it, the lights go back to their previous state and sounds fade. Kay starts getting upset with the confusion and frustration. There is another nature-based image with a stream running by.
Kay then looks down at her clothes; she notices that she has a few bloodstains on them. Confused as to why they are there, she tries to ask the girl more questions but again, the information is limited. The lights come up brighter again and Kay can hear what appear to be voices along with other machine like sounds. Before Kay can identify who it is the voice fades, but machine sounds remain. The girl throughout this remains in the same position and does not seem to be able to move from where she is situated. Kay starts discussing with her self what is going on, and starts to believe it is a dream, the girl tries to contradict her, but Kay doesn't trust her. The girl starts frantically writing on pieces of paper and, almost angry with Kay throws the pages at her to get her to read them. Kay reluctantly picks them up and has what appears to be a flashback.
Kay and the girl are in a park, it seems to be from Kay's memory, but there is no sound and Kay can't make out the dialogue. The 'memory' dissolves. Kay is standing in the dark space, staring at the paper. She starts to remember the girl as her friend, Minnie. Minnie starts writing down who Kay is, and we see the realisation that Kay is slowing remembering certain things.
There is then a sequence of what could be Kay's memories of things she has experienced or things that she has witnessed in a film. They are all images of naturalistic scenes, some still some moving. There are images of animals and some images of Minnie (all from Kay's point of view). They start overlaying and intertwining, making it all confusing. The sequence picks up pace too and all of the 'memories' come rushing back.
Kay and Minnie are sitting side by side in the black room. At this point, Kay's blood stains have gotten bigger, she starts to panic. Minnie starts writing again, and just before she shows Kay what she has written, the voices return. This time they are much clearer and Kay can work out what they are saying. The machine like sounds increase in volume as well and she starts to realise it is the sound of a heart monitor. Kay can hear the voices talking about someone and their health; she starts to come to terms with the fact that they are talking about her. She then remembers that she was in an accident and is now in hospital. Kay starts recalling the events that led up to where she is now and recalls that Minnie was with her at the time of the accident. Minnie writes something on paper and walks up to Kay, put her arm around her and gives her the paper. Kay reads it, drops it and starts crying. The paper drifts onto the floor and stays facing up, it reads, 'you're in a coma'.
